1967 was like a repetition of 1966. Nothing much changed. There were two opposite fields in Brazilian pop music: the so-called real-Brazilian-music (MPB) originating mainly from samba and its many variations as opposed to 'Americanized' rock-pop as performed by Roberto Carlos and his tribe. 

TV Record organized another MPB (Brazilian Pop Music) festival - and tried to de-segregate 'rock' from 'samba' - including acts like Roberto Carlos, Erasmo Carlos and other Jovem Guarda stalwarts into the Festival. Although Edu Lobo's 'Ponteio' won the Festival, the best selling single ended up being Roberto Carlos' 'Maria, carnaval e cinzas' which was ironic. That only went to prove that the 'best' was not exactly the most popular.
